Are you ready for transformation in 2017?
Roll out the welcome mat for a fresh start.

Change, whether good or bad, is inevitable.  Whether we like it or not, we all go through transformation.  The good news is that it’s never too late to grab the reins and ride change into the direction YOU choose, as a result making you the sculptor of your transformation.

“We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”
– Aristotle

Action Step 1: Acknowledge you are ready for change

Human potential is limitless and you did not get to where you are by chance.  You have made many deliberate choices and have taken actions to move your life in a specific direction. You already possess many strengths.  Since you are reading this, you possess the desire for knowledge and change and you have landed in the right spot. When you adopt small changes and develop a deeper understanding of yourself, you can use those strengths to break barriers, achieve your desired goals, and see true transformation.   Are you ready?  If so, roll up your sleeves, dig deep, reflect on where you’ve been, and focus on where you want to go.

Action Step 2: Identify what has worked for you

Know what has worked in the past and focus on the small wins.

We have fast-paced lives cluttered with to-do lists, and we often don’t take the time to recognize and acknowledge the small successes we have achieved along the way.  Dedicate some quiet time, free from distractions, to reflect on the past year and identify the behaviors and actions that helped you complete a goal. good_job_win Reward yourself when you repeat those behaviors.  For example, when you completed that significant project last year, or when you joined the gym and managed to get there consistently for the first six weeks, you adjusted your behaviors and actions to make that happen.  If success came because you got up 30 minutes earlier three days a week, then reward yourself for doing that.  This reward can be simply treating yourself to Starbucks coffee, finding time for a friend after work, or even just ordering dinner in rather than cooking it yourself.  Whatever your reward may be, you deserve it and you must remember to take it.  This has a bigger influence on your transformation than you think.

Action Step 3: There is power in the pen and visualization, write it down and see it!

Internalize and imprint your beliefs into your subconscious.

This exercise is critically important and a habit of many highly successful people. Take a minute to pause and reflect on what you believe about yourself, then write it down. Be clear and specific.  Reflect on those notes daily, and align your goals to those beliefs.   Per John Kehoe, author of Mind Power: Into the 21st Century, we have a lot more power to influence and direct the things that happen to us by just working with our thoughts.  As a result, thoughts we analyze over and over in our conscious mind will leave an imprint in your subconscious mind.  True transformation begins in the subconscious.

cat_lion_confidenceSeeding your mind with affirmatives and productive thoughts for 15 minutes a day can transform your life.  For example, if you believe you are strong and want to get in better shape in 2017, then visualize yourself as a strong-willed individual.  Visualize all the details of your early morning or post work-day routine of getting into your workout clothes, the travel path to the gym, and even the post workout reward.  When your beliefs pertain to your achievements at work, internalize the small details of achieving that promotion.  What time do you need to arrive at work?  What changes do you need to make in your organizational skills?  What skills do you need to improve or learn?  Put your answers in writing and read them to yourself every morning and every night.

Action Step 4: Inventory your habits

Consciously choose the habits you want to keep and reinforce.

Habits are necessary to successfully navigate everyday life.  Without them, we would be overwhelmed with all the stimuli and choices available to us.  Imagine having to find where we put our keys every morning if we did not have the habit of storingpencil_paper_inventory_habit them on a key ring or in a specific drawer.  At the same time, you can easily identify those habits that are counter-productive.  Make a list of both your productive habits and those that sabotage your success.  Review the list every day.  Like the belief exercise, this will aid in visualizing the behaviors and actions you desire.

Action Step 5: Establish a new Keystone habit.

Identify and practice a healthy behavior that will have a positive influence on other habits.

Keystone habits lead to the development of multiple good habits. They have a domino effect producing a positive impact on other areas of your life.  habit_chain_reactionIn Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, Duhigg writes about studies that show families who habitually eat dinner together, seem to raise children with better homework skills, higher grades, greater emotional control, and more confidence.  He asserts that these initial shifts start chain reactions that help other good habits take hold.  Start with a relatively simple keystone habit so you are more likely to repeat it in the beginning without much effort, perhaps changing your routine when you arrive home from work.  Perhaps, set up a restful area you can go to after a hard day at work, include your favorite magazines, puzzles, fresh flowers, fragrant candles, anything you love, and spend a few moments there deep breathing and reflecting as you visualize the days’ stressors floating away, add a little gratitude in the mix. Could that make a powerful change in your life?

Here’s the KICKER!

Remember to forgive yourself when you struggle and slip from time to time.  This is hard work.  When you stay committed to moving forward toward your goal, you will get there!  Many people quit due to slow progress, losing sight of the fact that slow progress is PROGRESS!  build_a_nest_transformationEven a bird builds her nest only one twig at a time.

The most successful people don’t do it alone, why should you?  Partner with a friend or colleague and establish a mutual support system.
